Robinson studied economics at the London School of Economics, Warwick University and Yale University. He has taught in the departments of economics at the University of Melbourne, University of Southern California. Before he joining Harvard University he was Professor in the departments of economics and political science from the University of California at Berkeley. His main research interest is in explaining why countries are different: particularly why some are more prosperous than others and why some are more democratic than others.
