Prof Spagat completed his PhD at Harvard and has previously taught at University of Illinois and Brown University. He is a current Leverhulme fellow. His interests are: Civil conflict, transition economics, monetary policy.

He is Professor of Economics at Royal Holloway-University of London and has an extensive record of research in political economy of conflicts, dictatorships and repressive regimes. He has also done research comparative an monetary economics. Professor Spagat hold a PhD in economics from Harvard University and is a member of the CEPR and the William Davidson Institute.
