Recent studies have denied the relation of causality between objective conditions and violence in Colombia. This article criticizes the way in which these conclusions have been reached, and discusses some hypotheses that link culture and objective causes with violence. It ends with a discussion about recent interpretations of the relation between stuctural causes and the internal armed conflict.
